TCM Gynecology

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

Physical symptoms: Irregular menstruation, infertility, weight gain, and excessive hair growth.

Overweight PCOS: More than half of patients have excess body fat, often accompanied by metabolic issues such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes.

Lean PCOS: Some women, especially in Asia, have normal or low body fat. This type is often linked to stress, poor sleep, or nervous system imbalance, increasing the risk of circulation problems or blood clots.

Irregular periods may also cause endometrial thickening, raising the risk of endometrial cancer.

In TCM, PCOS is mainly caused by imbalances in the liver, spleen, and kidney systems, with kidney deficiency as the key factor.

Treatment focuses on nourishing the kidney, supporting the spleen and liver, and improving blood flow to restore regular menstruation. A three-month course helps regulate the cycle, with basal body temperature used to monitor ovulation and body balance.

Menstrual regulation

Before or during menstruation, symptoms may appear emotionally and physically.

Common signs include mood swings, irritability, headache, bloating, abdominal pain, and irregular flow.

Some may also experience fatigue, weakness, or difficulty concentrating.

The doctor takes the patient’s pulse, analyzes the physical condition, matches the symptoms that match the patient’s, and gives a deep understanding of the physical condition. Based on the changes in physical condition at different stages of each month, the doctor uses strictly tested scientific Chinese medicine to regulate the body, thereby achieving the purpose of regulation.

Infertility

Infertility is the inability to conceive after two years of regular, unprotected intercourse.

It may be caused by physical issues such as blocked fallopian tubes or uterine problems, which require medical testing.

If due to body imbalance or weakness, it can be improved through TCM treatment and regulation.

In TCM, infertility treatment focuses on the body as a whole, as all organs are closely connected.

The causes may differ between men and women, such as kidney weakness, liver qi stagnation, stress from trying to conceive, or insufficient blood and energy.

Both partners are encouraged to undergo treatment together.

For those planning to conceive within a year, it is recommended to start TCM regulation at least six months in advance to prepare the body for a healthy pregnancy.

Pre- and Postnatal Care

During Pregnancy:  As the mother’s body nourishes the baby, qi and blood may become imbalanced, causing dizziness, nausea, or swelling.

If spleen or blood deficiency occurs, it may lead to slow fetal growth or, in severe cases, unstable pregnancy or miscarriage.

After Childbirth: Significant loss of energy and blood during delivery can cause weakness, prolonged lochia, body aches, headaches, low milk supply, or emotional imbalance.

Prenatal Care:

During pregnancy, TCM helps ease discomfort and support a healthy, smooth delivery through personalized herbal care.

Postnatal Care:

After childbirth, treatment focuses on restoring energy and blood, improving milk flow, and helping the body recover balance and strength.

Premature Ovarian Failure (POF)

Premature ovarian failure occurs when ovarian function declines before age 40.

It may cause irregular or absent periods, reduced fertility, and early menopause.

In TCM, this condition is mainly linked to kidney deficiency, sometimes worsened by stress, poor lifestyle habits, or emotional imbalance that lead to liver qi stagnation and poor blood flow.

These factors can further weaken kidney essence and affect reproductive health.

TCM treatment for premature ovarian failure aims to restore hormonal balance, ease menopause-like symptoms, and support natural conception.

Herbal medicine and acupuncture help stimulate ovulation, improve blood flow, and strengthen the body for pregnancy.

Menopause

Menopause usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55, when menstruation stops for about a year.

Common symptoms include hot flashes, a burning sensation in the face and chest that spreads through the body, mood swings, irritability, palpitations, chills, and loss of focus or interest in daily life.

Menopausal symptoms and body conditions vary from person to person.

Through TCM treatment, symptoms such as hot flashes and insomnia can be improved.

With proper herbal care, a balanced diet, and regular lifestyle, the body and mind can regain stability and wellbeing during this stage.
